Three Rivers Triathlon Is Spectacular: 14 Minute PR!

I love the smaller races. Emmanuel Millet who is the North American representative of Aquaman Wetsuits, lives in Three Rivers. He puts on a great event. In the third week of August, the Three Rivers (Michigan) Olympic/Sprint distance Triathlon takes place. There is also an olympic distance duathlon event at the same time. I have done the olympic distance triathlon twice and the duathlon once. This is my favote olympic distance triathlon event. It was the first one I did and now it is the fastest one I have ever done! But beware the course is hilly!

The event is small. It has between 300 and 400 athletes. The event starts in someone's backyard and it ends on someone else's property with the athletes eating homemade blueberry pancakes. In between is just a beautiful venue with rolling hills. Yes the run course is hilly!

I completed the Ironman Lake Placid event just four weeks before, so I had no ideas of grandeaur for this event. Just do my best. I went with two of my buddies, Chris Ferrigno and Jim Donegan. They were doing the event for the first time and loved it! We stayed at our friend Tim Kenny's place in Three Rivers. His place is beautiful, right on Long Lake!

I felt very good throughout the race. I set my PR for the 1500 meter swim with 27:10. I cycled 19.2 mph on the bike. Yes I should have gone faster. But I did run 41 minutes 45 for an average 6:44 pace on the run! I ended up at 2:32:30 and a 14 minute PR! Not bad for a 45 year old! Remember I don't do this for a living, I am a doctor who does Prolotherapy! Most importantly I had some great bonding times with my buds! But if you haven't done this race (2.5 hours from chicago) I would highly recommend it!
